A herd of brumbies had gathered at the narrow end of the gorge, horses with wild tangled manes, heads up, tails twitching in warning to intruders. A rainbow of natural, earthy colours dazzled the eye - warm bays, sooty blacks, blazing chestnuts and the occasional stunning stormy greys. At the head of the herd stood a horse taller than the rest, with a proud, arched neck and eyes that never left the escape routes, keeping a vigilant watch over the crowd of horses behind him. The surrounding country was rugged, characterised by ancient boab trees and a wide stretch of water to the left of the herd. A bloody sun set over the wild country of the Kimberley in the north of Australia, and over the herd as their leader tossed his fierce head, challenging the oncoming night, and the days to come as a wild stallion in The North.
